Class 5 Licence Courses - FROM $1,100 incl GST
- To drive any Truck and trailer combination over 25,000Kg you require a Class 5 Heavy Vehicle Licence.
- Prerequisite: You must hold your Class 5L (Learner Licence) before you're able to sit this course. For information on gaining your licence - refer to the NZTA.
- The Class 5 time reduction course is made up of 3 components which are compulsory
- Day 1 - Unit standard 24089 - Demonstrate knowledge of driving hours law, Fatigue Management and complete driver logbook - This theory course takes approximiately 7 hours.
- Please Note: If this unit has been done as part of a class 2 course by an approved course provider and you can show proof of completion (see below) then this unit is not required.
- Proof of completion must be one of the following:
- Either a copy of your course completion certificate issued by the course provider, or,
- Written confirmation from your course provider that it has been completed as part of your class 2 Day 2 - Unit Standard 17577 - Demonstrate knowledge of driver licensing requirements for Class 5 full Licence. This theory course takes approximiately 5 hours
- Practical Assessment – Depending on prior experience, students are given (as included with the course) up to 2 hours of practical driver training in a Class 5 vehicle prior to undertaking their practical assessment.
- The practical assessment is carried out after the theory component has been successfully completed. The assessment requires the trainee to have knowledge and skill to complete the following but is not limited to:
- Inspect a heavy combination motor vehicle for legal compliance.
- Drive a heavy motor vehicle in different traffic and road conditions.
- Manoeuvre a heavy combination vehicle in reverse.
- Park and secure a heavy combination vehicle.
- To maintain a driving hours logbook.
